TimeLine Theatre Company is committed to authentic and sustained engagement with the greater Chicago community, and particularly with the Uptown neighborhood, the location of our new home.

Over our 29-year history as an organization, TimeLine has developed countless relationships in the community, including with businesses, individuals and organizations that share thematic connections to the plays we produce, and through our summer youth arts experience TimeLine South. And we are proud members of many of the organizations fostering collaboration in our city and industry, including the League of Chicago Theatres; Choose Chicago; Theatre Communications Group; Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce; Chicago Cultural Alliance; Chicago Green Theatre Alliance; and Uptown Chamber of Commerce.

TimeLine’s community engagement goals include:

  • Create a welcoming TimeLine experience where all visitors can feel a sense of belonging
have an arts experience unlike any other, and do their best work
  • Inform, engage, empower, and energize both current and new members of TimeLine’s community
  • Create opportunities for community members and organizations to contribute to and see themselves reflected in the TimeLine experience
  • Facilitate TimeLine being present in and contributing to the well-being of the community
  • Be a good neighbor and partner with local businesses and organizations
  • Honor the legacy of Uptown’s historic Entertainment District and be a part of its future

Roadmap to Sustainable Impact

Our new home offers the opportunity to expand TimeLine’s mission and fulfill our community engagement goals in multiple new ways—not just through the art on stage, but through engaging a diverse group of visitors and cohabitants who will also call TimeLine home. With our partners Greater Good Studio, we embarked on a process to co-create the Roadmap, a strategic plan that will inform and mobilize the entire organization toward sustainable impact in Uptown. The driving question throughout was: how can TimeLine be a good neighbor?

A timeline of our co-creation of the Roadmap

The Roadmap’s Debut

We were excited to share parts of the Roadmap and the lessons we learned from our neighbors at our New Home Opening: Uptown Preview event in March 2026. While there’s still a lot of work to do, the Roadmap and its creation have shown us many different paths for TimeLine to take on the journey to sustainable impact in our community.
