AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE: Sunday Scholars

After the performance on Sunday, May 31, join us for this one-hour panel discussion with experts on the theme of the play moderated by An Enemy of the People dramaturg Maren Robinson and featuring the following esteemed guest panelists:

MIGUEL A. DEL TORAL retired from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2019 after 33 years of service, including nearly 29 years in the drinking water program. As Regulations Manager for the Ground Water and Drinking Water Branch, Region 5, his primary responsibilities included developing National Primary Drinking Water Regulations (NPDWRs), developing national guidance and training for EPA staff, state staff and public water system personnel; serving as a member of national implementation workgroups for all regulations; providing interpretation of regulations and assisting personnel in implementation of regulations; and training personnel on NPWDRs. He was a member of the U.S. EPA Flint Safe Drinking Water Task Force and Technical Support Team (2015-2019) and head of the U.S. EPA Flint Response Field Sampling Team (January – November 2016). Honors include being recipient of the 2017 U.S. EPA Region 5 Federal Employee of the Year Award and recipient of the 2019 U.S. EPA Region 5 Valdas V. Adamkus Sustained Commitment to the Environment Honor Award.

MONICA ENG is an award-winning, veteran Chicago reporter. She has worked in Chicago journalism for more than four decades, starting at the Chicago Sun-Times and moving to the Chicago Tribune and WBEZ, where she started covering lead in Chicago’s water. Monica has served as an Axios Chicago reporter since the summer of 2021, where she continues to cover the issue.

This Sunday Scholars discussion will last approximately one hour and is FREE and open to the public. If you would like to attend but are not attending the show that day, please arrive by 4pm and you can enter the theatre once the performance concludes.
