Donyae Asante

Donyae Asante (he/she/they) is a singer-songwriter, actor and playwright based in Chicago, IL. The R&B and hip-hop artist, who just returned to Chicago after working in the New Orleans theater industry, released his 4th studio album, Donnie, in 2025. His album was inducted into New Orleans Public Library’s Crescent City Sounds. Recently he placed third in Big Kids Show Chicago. His recent stage credits include The View Upstairs (Jefferson Performing Arts Society) Vanya & Sonia & Masha and Spike (Crescent City Stage), Where The Suga Still Sweet (No Dream Deferred), Drapetomania: A Negro Carol (No Dream Deferred) and his playwriting debut Inner Child (The Actors Apothecary). Asante has one goal in his artistry: to show peace is possible when you step within and focus on your divine power.

I love to be with a company that is reflective of the times we are in and stands ten toes down in anti racism within the theater space.
