Jessica Lee is a journalist and fact-checker from North Dakota who joined Snopes in April 2020. She has experience working in newsrooms across the U.S., primarily as a breaking news reporter at The Seattle Times and local government correspondent for the Minnesota news nonprofit, MinnPost. Notable reporting moments include the election of U.S. President Donald Trump in 2016, Amazon’s takeover of Seattle, and way too many mass shootings. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and has started work on a master’s degree in Media Studies from the University of Nebraska. Her academic interests include the news media’s effect on political polarization, while her personal interests include camping, dive bars, and D-list celebrity gossip. Jessica currently heads Snopes’ Minneapolis bureau with two four-legged news assistants, Buddy (beagle-pit mix) and Herman (tailless tuxedo cat).
