Play Reading Series
TimePieces is TimeLine's ongoing series of one-night only presentations designed to extend our mission beyond the four subscription series productions we offer each season.
The series offers audiences a chance to hear new or rarely produced plays inspired by history that connect with today's social and political issues.
Each play reading is FREE (donations are accepted) and includes a brief post-show discussion to give the audience a chance to reflect on the piece and the themes and issues it presents.
HOW THE WORLD BEGAN
by Catherine Trieschmann
directed by Andrea Dymond
Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 7 pm
TimeLine Theatre
615 W. Wellington Ave., Chicago
Creationism and evolution collide in this fascinating play about the debate between how religion and science are taught in schools. In the aftermath of a deadly tornado in a small Kansas town, a high school biology teacher relocates from New York City to help this community in need of aid and healing. After making an off-hand remark in class about the origin of the universe, she is confronted by a student offended by what he feels is inappropriate commentary on his beliefs. As a firestorm of controversy engulfs the town, How the World Began explores faith, grief, fear and the chasms that divide our country.
The cast of How the World Began features TimeLine Company Member Mechelle Moe with Donald Brearley (TimeLine's The History Boys) and Zachary Keller.
Tickets are FREE but reservations are strongly recommended. Call (773) 281-8463 x6 or email boxoffice@timelinetheatre.com to request a reservation.
SOME BRIGHTER DISTANCE
by Keith Reddin
directed by Scott Illingworth
Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 7 pm
Note alternate location: Stage 773, 1229 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago
From acclaimed playwright Keith Reddin comes this fascinating new play never before seen. Spanning 1946-1984, Some Brighter Distance is based on a true story of a German scientist brought to America at the end of World War II to be an instrumental player in developing the rocket that would take us to the moon. Years later, the U.S. government, which once had brought this scientist here for its own gain, now seeks to completely disassociate with him, digging up issues from the past and accusing him of horrible atrocities during the war.
Featuring TimeLine Company Member Janet Ulrich Brooks, TimeLine Associate Artist Andrew Carter, Kurt Ehrmann, Francis Guinan, Greta Honold and Stef Tovar.
