Cortelyou Commons at DePaul University
The Cortelyou Commons is located at 2324 N. Fremont St. on DePaul University’s Lincoln Park campus. “The Commons” was originally built in 1929 and remodeled in 2006.
PLEASE NOTE: Cortelyou Commons can be tricky to find, as Fremont Street is tucked between Belden and Fullerton. It is only accessible by car via North Chalmers Place. If walking (from the parking garage on Sheffield or from other destinations), look out for sidewalks beside gated drives. We’ve included some parking and public transportation details below.
Directions and Parking
PARKING
Street Parking
Limited free and/or metered parking spots are available on Fullerton, Halsted, and Lincoln Avenues. Since the Commons is on a college campus, there may be other events and traffic around the venue. Make sure to plan ahead and beware of permitted areas if you intend on utilizing street parking.
Parking Garage
The nearest parking garage is the Sheffield Lot, 2331 N Sheffield Ave. The garage is open 24/7 and always has a cashier available to assist the patrons as they exit.
TimeLine staff will be able to provide a validation voucher to patrons. Please see TimeLine staff at the Commons for a voucher, which you will need to present to the garage’s cashier upon exit. The validated prices are as follows:
- Weekdays (enter before 4pm)
- $13 up to 12 hours
- Weekdays (enter after 4pm)
- $10.00 up to 12 hours
- Saturday & Sunday
- $10 up to 12 hours
Please note: This garage has a 6’10” clearance.
When exiting the garage on foot, walk south on Sheffield Avenue and turn east on Belden Avenue. Walk under the “El” tracks and past the DePaul soccer field (Wish Field). The next left after the field is Fremont Street. The driveway is usually gated, but there is a sidewalk going north to the Commons.
DROP OFF
If you are driving to the Commons and dropping off a passenger, please note that the venue is not accessible from Fullerton Avenue. There are gated roads along Fullerton that we do not control.
Instead, drive east along Belden Avenue from Sheffield. Turn left onto North Chalmers Place. Follows signage/one ways to the west to Fremont Street. You should be able to exit on Chalmers Place after drop-off.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Cortelyou Commons is accessible via CTA Red, Brown, and Purple lines via the Fullerton stop.
If traveling from the Fullerton stop, walk east on the south side of the street, towards Halsted. Turn south at Fremont Street which is a gated driveway. There is a sidewalk leading south to the Commons.
The #74 Fullerton bus is nearby, as well as the #8 Halsted. The #22 Clark bus stops at Clark and Fullerton, about a 15 minute walk away.
